The internet blames a man for not intervening when his wife deleted her daughter’s novel

In a new viral social media post, the internet has blamed a man for doing nothing after finding out his wife deleted her daughter’s novel.

On Reddit’s infamous “AmITheA**hole” forum, a submission gained popularity with 6,000 upvotes and 1,800 comments. The Anonymous Redditor begins his story by explaining how he has been married to his new wife, Hannah, for 2 years. His daughter from a previous marriage, Morgan, has always lived with her mother but decided to live with her father for school.

Hannah admitted to the OP (original poster) that she was snooping on Morgan’s laptop and found a novel she had written, “She praised his writing style and storytelling , so I thought that was a positive thing,” he wrote.

The invasion of privacy is taken seriously by the courts and the penalties are very severe. If convicted for the first time of invasion of privacy, it is considered a third degree misdemeanor. It can lead to 1 year in prison or a fine of $2,500.

Upon returning home, he noticed that Hannah, Morgan, and her birth mother were arguing. He asked what was going on and Morgan complained that Hannah deleted her novel. Hannah claimed she was portrayed as the villain because Morgan used her name and was very descriptive using derogatory words against her. Morgan shouted that it was a complete invasion of his privacy and was just a character in his book.

After more arguments, the three women got angry at the PO for not saying anything. Hannah snapped, calling the Redditor a “coward” for not helping her with the situation. Morgan and his mother argued with the OP that he should have said something when he first heard about Hannah on Morgan’s laptop without her permission.

“Texts from both sides kept coming in both telling me that I should have done something and that I should have taken their side in the argument. I just had to stay out of this one, I was up all week working, both my mental and physical health is at half mast and I’m sick of them fighting all the time and then blaming me for my actions/lack of action,” said he declared.

The Reddit community did not accept the OP’s apology.

“YTA. Hanna would have to pay recovery services to get the novel back (it will cost $1,500-$3,000 and won’t guarantee success). There’s no doubt who TA is here and it’s you and Hannah The laptop should be turned off and not used until it is sent for recovery to give it the best chance of success,” u/AGuyAndHisCat has the highest comment with over 20,500 upvotes.

“YTA. So did Hannah. Your daughter was writing fiction and probably dealing with stuff with that writing. Hannah snooped around, then deleted her work. Work that was in no way public or created to hurt Hannah. You are TA for not realizing how deeply Hannah screwed up here and how inappropriate her behavior was,” u/thirdtryisthecharm wrote.

U/HistoricalInaccurate said, “YTA and a coward. You should have stopped spying on your wife the moment she said she did because she was invading your daughter’s privacy. Your wife completely wrong and you know it but again you are a coward for refusing to address her behavior and defend your daughter this could well be a watershed moment in all of your relationships that ends up with your daughter reducing contact with you , you’re an ex rightfully throwing yourself out to everyone she knows, and your current wife is wondering if being with you is worth it.
