Idea for a novel: Julia Aker – Seymour Tribune

Name: Julia Akker

Job Title: Director of the Jackson County Public Library

What is the name of the book and author you recommend?

“In Case You Get Hit by a Bus: How to Organize Your Life Now for When You’re Away Later” by Abby Schneiderman and Adam Seifer. The book is available at the Seymour Library or 24 other Evergreen Indiana libraries and on OverDrive. There is also an audiobook available at another Evergreen Indiana library or on hoopla.

What made you want to get this book in the first place?

I actually saw a review about it in a library magazine before it came out in December 2020. I ordered a personal copy for myself and three of my friends. I had two siblings who died without everything being in order, and I wanted to at least try not to do that to my son and the rest of my family. I also have friends who went through this with their parents. At least one of my friends went through the whole book and hopefully organized things for her family.

When you finished the book, what did you enjoy?

I’ve leafed through the book but haven’t written anything yet. I have to make it a priority to read the whole book again, which I haven’t had the chance to do yet due to other things I had to do first. My goal is not to keep putting it off and to finish the book in 2022.

What is the book about?

Topics covered in the book include passwords, money, home, fingerprinting, trusts, wills, healthcare, memories, letters, funeral planning, and obituaries.

Why would you recommend this book to others?

If you are someone who likes to be organized, this book is very useful. My ultra-organized engineer son and my remaining siblings will be happy once I have everything in order if they need to do anything with it.
