The Magus and the Fool

“The LGBTQ+ community is being hit hard by those in power. They want our books out of public libraries. They want transgender children separated and their supportive parents investigated.” Don’t Say not gay” is their battle cry. weapon in our arsenal, and I choose to use it powerfully.”

Carry Iverson needs a change of pace from her predictable life in Ohio. He takes a job with a social justice firm in Austin and rents a cabin on Lake Travis. During a bewildering dinner with her cousin, Donovan, his wife, Fallon, and an attractive transgender man, Levi, Carry discovers that her neighbor is a wealthy, mysterious man who has everyone talking.

Carry’s curiosity turns into attraction after meeting the flirtatious Jacobi at one of his parties. But Jacobi has a secret desire: he is in love with Donovan. Now Carry finds herself caught in the middle of a reckless love triangle with Fallon, who is determined to destroy Jacobi to keep her wayward husband from wandering off.

Passion and jealousy come to a head as the carefully crafted lives of Carry, Jacobi, Donovan, Fallon and Levi unfold.

This provocative and explosive story tells what happens at the intersection of obsession and tragedy and explores the fragility of hope and agony in the face of what could have been but never was, two forces that pull us into lives we were never meant to live.

“Those who have read The Great Gatsby, even if some time ago, would do well to pursue The Magus and the Fool in light of a re-reading of this classic. It comes highly recommended for LBGTQ collections, of course; but beyond that, the story ideally will access any literary library rich in stories of love, life challenges, and sexual and social revelations.”
D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

“The Magus and The Fool is a gripping LGBTQ+ tale that updates The Great Gatsby with aplomb and contemporary resonance.”
